Year 3

Welcome to Year 3, the first year in Key Stage Two.  In Year 3 we help the children to build on all they’ve learnt in Key Stage One and help them to start to become more independent learners.  

We aim to provide a happy and secure learning environment where all the children are encouraged to try their best and reach their full potential.

We ensure that the classrooms are stimulating places which motivate the children to work hard and achieve whilst also having fun.

Your child will be supported during this significant year by Miss Lauder, Mrs Dight, Mrs Choudhury, Mrs Ollerenshaw & Mrs Khanam.

The Phase Leader for Lower Key Stage Two is Mrs Murfin.

We provide the children with a broad and balanced curriculum which caters to the needs of all children. The children will primarily be learning through a number of exciting topics which you will find stated in the termly topic letter.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

As we are learning about the life of Early Britons in our History lessons, we have started to create a model of a shelter that the Early Britons may have used. We used clay to form a circle and added lollipop sticks as posts.

ENGLISH

We were improving and redrafting our writing and then publishing our non-chronological reports.

HISTORY

This term, our History topic is The Early Britons. We have been using our research skills to investigate how Early Britons communicated.

MUSIC

In Year 3, we are starting to learn to play the recorder. We have begun by learning to play the note B.

SCIENCE

In Year 3, we have been investigating magnets and forces.  We carried out an experiment to discover whether they attract or repel when poles are facing each other.

We have been using wand magnets to test and observe which materials were attracted to a magnet.

We have been investigating whether all magnets are the same strength. We used different magnets and observed the number of paperclips each magnet would attract in a line.

We continued to investigate the strength of magnets by investigating how many pieces of card a magnet would attract a paper clip through.

The children investigated a ‘floating magnet’.  We used our knowledge of magnets to explain how the magnet was able to float. We were even able to put our fingers between the magnets and they still foated!
